Preventing Rust On Garden Tools Through The Winter

Preventing Rust On Garden Tools Through The Winter

When winter hits and its time to put away the gardening tools,
● Don't put them away dirty.
● Wash the tools off thoroughly. If they're extremely rusty, clean them with a soap-filled, steel-wool pad dipped in turpentine. Wear rubber gloves while doing so.
● Add a light coat of oil for extended storage.
● Then use a file to sharpen all blades and all cutting edges, even those on shovels and hoes.  Add a light coat of oil for extended storage.
● Self-polishing floor wax, also prevents rusting.
● Driving small garden tools into a bucket of dry sand stops rust, too.
Following these tips will ensure your tools will be ready for spring!
